DirectX can't install

Help, I run Widows ME have just done a reformat and reinstall of the operating system. On coming to install my Logitech Wingman Extreme Joystick the driver would install but fail to recognise the Hardware when I connected it as per the driver installation instruction. Downloaded latest driver from Logitech couldn't install this without DirectX 8.0 or better. Used various magazine cover disks and also download from Microsoft site but it will not install. It gets to setup screen and freezes. Help appreciated, don't really want to try reformatting again.

update you graphics card drivers to the latest version ati click here nvidia click here

install this version or direct x click here

just download it as you would any other program

click on it to install.

then get the profiler click here its a one size fits all devices driver so dont worry that it shows a joystick,if you use a pad or wheel it will be the same profiler.
