A Freeview (non-amplified) aerial, which I connect to the tv tuner and stand on top of my CRT monitor. Would that work, or can you see any snags with it? Is all this gear compatible? I'm about two miles away from the transmitter, btw. Pontop Pike, I think it's called.
The Argos antenna says it's for areas with a strong signal. If you're two miles from the transmitter you should theoretically get a good signal, but this also depends on variables like your altitude relative to the transmitter, hills or buildings in between... etc. I reckon the only way to find out is to buy one and try it. Argos have some kind of no-quibble returns policy don't they? If it's no good you can take it back.
I have dealt with ALDI, I returned a TV that had developed a fault after appx 10mths. I was expecting the usual excuses and aggro, they did not even open the box and look at it or even ask what was wrong. The only thing they asked was whether I had the receipt, when I produced it I was told to take it to the checkout and they will refund my money which they did in cash. No hassle, no arguments I was very impressed. My point is you have nothing to lose by trying it.
