Please can anyone recommend a digital camera with a wide angle lens?

  Cannuck 13:01 30 Nov 2005

How much are you willing to spend?

You will find plenty if you google:

"digital camera" "wide angle lens".

Is it just a wide angle lens you want. What about interchangable lenses?

I have the Fuji So Pro which takes Nikon lenses.

Then there are variable zoom options:

"The Nikon Coolpix 5400 is considered a wide angle digital camera. Its focal length ranges from 28-116mm. The Canon Powershot G6 is not and has a focal length that ranges from 35 - 140mm. If we calculate the zoom ratio for each camera we get 116 / 28 = 4.1x and 140 / 35 = 4x. Despite the fact that the Nikon Coolpix 5400 has a slightly bigger zoom ratio the Canon Powershot G6 can get you in closer to the subject you are shooting."

Really an impossible question to answer, What focal length do you require? how much are prepared to pay? do you want an all in one camera (digicam) or will a DSLR be ok?

Probably the best of the latest crop of digicams is the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-R1 this will cost £550+, If you can locate a Olympus C7070, this would probably be your best bet, another to look at would be the PowerShot Pro1 @ £450.

If you are prepared to the DSLR route, be prepared to spend appox £600 minimum

Hello Cannuck,

Hello hssutton,

I am a complete novice, I don't know what focal length I require, I am prepared to spend £500.
What is a DSLR?

  hssutton 15:15 30 Nov 2005

Well that should get you the super Canon Powershot Pro1 8mp 28-200mm zoom. PowerShot S80 28-100mm @ £379.

Ricoh also make a few wide angle ones This leaves the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 as the best of the bunch with it's 10Mp Cmos sensor @ £579 24-120mm

DSLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex
