Difference between USB1 and USB2 connector

Can you tell by looking at a USB plug whether it is USB1 or USB2?

I wouldn't of thought so as I was under the imprsseion the numbers just referred to the speed.

no, there is only 1 type of connector for USB. The speed that it runs at is determined by the software. You can check whether it is USb 1 or 2 via Device manager.

No. The connectors are identical.

If you want to see if you have USB2 look in Device Manager - it will be shown as 'Enhanced'.

Sorry, no difference in plugs or cables. Items usualy marked USB 2 or USB 2.1 if they are, otherwise assume they are USB 1.

USB 1 will work with USB 2 and USB 2 will work with USB 1.

However a USB 2 HDD running on uSB 1 will work like a slug, I know from experience.

Thanks everyone, I always thought that there must also be a difference in the connectors, as i thought I had seen connectors for sale described as USB1 and also USB2.
Thats cleared that up then.
