oops, meant to say I cant tell the difference between them - they seem to have the same specification.

Does anyone know how they differ?

They look about identical to me - only difference one says "Standard Wireless Optical Mouse" and the other "High Definition Optical Technology" The 2000 may be a later model.

I have the 5000 from northumbria61's link.

I have had it for a couple of years. It is good and solid, has four buttons plus a click scroll wheel. It's nice and sensitive - whilst being rugged. The battery life is good as well - which is important.

Have a look at the Logitech M505 mouse. The receiver unit is the size of a postage stamp and can be left in-situ all the time. I can vouch for it's ease of use etc.
