Dial up connection problem on laptop

  Morphy 11:29 04 Oct 2004

I normally use the internet connection on my main PC, but now need to be able to connect using my laptop as well from time to time.

I transferred the ISP settings from my PC to my laptop, but they do not seem to be working. It connects fine, but it only receives/transmits approx 400-500 bytes of data, then stops sending. It remains connected, but there is no data transfer, I cant even load up the google homepage, hardly anything on that webpage!

Any ideas how to solve this?

which windows, Who is your ISP and type of connection.

Have you got the Modem Dial area code set to your region the phone number prefix.

Home page set to the isp.

If its Freeserve/Wanadoo you need to retrieve account, think the same with BT also.

The settings really need to be spot on.

Also Check for Virus infection.

What operating system?

Did you create it with the connect to internet wizard?

Sorry, heres the details

OS: Windows 98
ISP: Firenet
Connection type is dial-up
Area code is fine
Home page isnt a problem, I have it set to google on my main PC.

Retrieve account from ISP: Might work, but then I wouldnt have thought that i would be allowed to connect at all if that was necessary?? will check tho.
