Dial -up connection corruption

We have all this happen to us I am sure.
I have lots of times, and can now sort it blind fold

Dial-up works OK then next time you use it, it comes back to say - cannot connect -incorrect user name/password.

This has happened to a computer that I delivered and set up on Friday last.
Set it up. connected. Test E-mails [previously sent by me at home on my machine and on the machine in question] came in OK
Surfed a bit.
Went on then to demonstrate the rest of the machine to its new owner.
Come yesterday[Sunday] Owner says 'I cant get on line - it comes back to say..............'
So I have to go back some time - tomorrow probably. to sort it.
All I will do is to delete that connection and make a new one, and take with me a 'crib' sheet to show the lady how to do it herself next time.
But, but, What causes it to corrupt ' any clues any one?

I have this (same?)problem with Aol BBand.
The wretched thing sometimes sulks at sign-on.

Easily solved for me by deleting Location, adding a new one, nameing it exactly the same follow the prompts and Hey Presto.

BUT.... like you jack, why?

Never happens to me if I go straight online after cold boot.
