dial up connection keeps poping up on startup of windows 98se how can I stop this from happening?

Check your 'startup' folder to see if a shortcut to IE or OE is in there.

Also check in IE, under tools>options>connections, to see if the 'send / receive messages at startup' is ticked. If itr is then untick it.

Have you tried serarching the forum, this has come up quite a few times, I've always missed the answer to the problem though.

also go to your "run" box and type "regedit" without the quotes then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run which will also provide info on what's running at startup.

***Always make a backup of your registry before making changes so you have a recovery option if the PC won't start after making changes...

It's probably trying to update something on your computer that is set to auto update, Zone alarm, or even Ms Media player if you have put some new files on, just check all the programs that have auto update on your computer & if you don't want it to dial up reconfigure to manual. Run a program like Spywareblaster, or Spybot to check for auti dial trojans just in case.

As above or try...

Find and remove:

and to prevent:

click here and download spyware blaster and guard.

After your earlier posting I got an email from you saying this problem was solved, & also you ticked the original question as resolved. What's happening ?

Is this resolved and what resolved it if so?

Go to run and type 'msconfig'.
Go to the startup page and go down the list and try to spot any unusual startup programs.
Be weary though! You might stop something from running that you might need at startup, so check VERY CAREFULLY.
