Desktop. XP SP3Core 2 Duo 4GB RAMGigabyte Geforce 8600 GTS.Have been having trouble with the PC restarting, as if using the reset button, at irregular times. Sometimes several times in a minute to working well for an hour or so.Entered BIOS and waited. Still restarting. My conclusion is that it is a hardware problem.Disconnected reset from motherboard. Same problem.Disconnected all drives apart from boot disc. Same problem. Now at the stage of not starting at all, apart from the fans kicking.Have checked the fans all working. Apart from checking the Graphics card fan, but the temparatures on all items reading normal. My conclusion is that I have a duff PSU (550Watt), or a short in the system.Any ideas before I purchase a new PSU and rebuild?Siouxah1
I agree, it is most probably your PSU...Can you borrow one to test the theory? If not go for a quality make such as:click hereThe Hiper's in the above link.
Thanks for that, have just obtained another to give it a try. Will let you know.Siouxah1
but no luck with replacement PSU. The PSU and CPU fans spin for a second then stop. This is repeated continually. Sadly I think it is a bin job. Either CPU or Mboard.
Just for information.Turned out to be the mainboard. Connected CPU to another mainboard all working.
