Dell Latitude D600 not activating windows 7

  tintinuk67 19:03 18 Jan 2011

I have been given an old Dell Latitude D600 through work which came with Windows XP but a dead hard drive. I've replaced the drive & installed Windows 7 from an OEM disk, but my problem is that Windows will not activate.

When you try to activate it through Control Panel > Systems it says that the copy of windows is not genuine.

Any ideas?

Is the Win7 OEM version you're using also installed & activated on any other system - the licence key mainly?

Where did you buy the Win7 OEM from? G

The Win7 disk came thru work as we have a contract with Dell but has not been installed on any other pc as all our pc's run XP pro.

Win OEM disks will only basically work on one computer

You'll need to buy another that has not been used or buy a retail version that you can use on any one computer

What system was the Dell Win7 OEM licence originally meant for? The licence key is probably tied to that system (even if not used) & cannot be installed on any other. G
