Dell inspiron 8500 laptop system freezing

I have bought a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop recently for home use(less than a week)and am concerned about system freezing for no apparent reason. I picked this info. from the USA community forum website for Dell cutomer support. Discussions on hardware suggets freezing may be caused by issues with RAM, tough pad mouse software/battery issues, high temp of RAM sticks, motherboard.
I am a novice and not sure if I have made the right choice. The system is

If this laptop is only a week old you should be getting in touch with Dell
