defraging shuts me down!

I have a compaq presario desktop that came with windows 98se, i used the restore disks that came with the computer and now when ever i try to defrag it shuts my computer down and restarts, i know theres a problem can anyone help me fing it. thank you very much.

as you have restored the computer windows will need to be updated again.this will include security and bug fixes and may help a bit.click here

try running defrag in safe mode
