Defrag and Error Checking

  leadwellie 14:46 22 Dec 2008

I am running XP Home with the file system set to NTFS.
I recently had to do an upgrade due to probs with the system restore function.
The problem I now have is that when I try to use the defrag or error chaeck I get an error message stating that "windows was unable to complete the disc check" and "disc defragmenter was unable to start".
Any advice would be appreciated.

Can only think that you have to be signed in as an administrator before you can run them.

Or try Disk Defragmenter in safe mode.

Did you manage to sort this out as the same has happened to me and I couldnt run the system restore to a previous setting. I am an administrator ?
Im also getting redirected to other sites when using the internet but running avg and other spyware progs hasnt helped.

Try Malwarebytes free or trial. That should find most problems.Try system restore in safe mode.[just keep tapping f8 as the computer starts,But you would be better opening your own thread instead of using an old one as you will probably get more replies.
Just open a new one and put.
Redirected and can't Restore.Anything like that.
Superantispyware is another good program to try along with malwarebytes.
