grandson’s Laptop, (Compaq CQ61 ) is dead. It just will not bootup, plug in mains cable, press the start button , the three little lights at the front of the laptop flash a couple of times, and nothing happens. i am told that before the laptop failed, the battery icon said o not charging. If the battery has died, should it still bootup on mains

  1. Turn off the computer,
  2. Take the battery out
  3. Take out the power supply
  4. Push the power button down for 30 seconds.
  5. Reconnect power supply
  6. Try to boot with battery still removed.

If that works then refit battery and see if it will charge.

Following of from FB excellent advice ,it is possible the power brick has packed up. Try to borrow a matching one to see if runs the lappie

Check the label on the back of computer and the PS for the DC in[computer] out[power] a reasonable generic replacement can be found on Amazon.
