This is what happens nearly every time I play a game on computer.
Is DDHelp anything to do with Direct Draw? and if so how can I fix.

I run Win98se on a Soyo Dragon plus board and Athlon thunderbird 1.333 512 memory and nVidia geforce 2 MX 100/200. I have installed DirectX 9.0 and the problem persists.

In the first instance you could run the Direct X diagnostic tool located at START->PROGRAMS->ACCESSORIES->SYSTEM TOOLS->SYSTEM INFORMATION->TOOLS->DIRECT X DIAGNOSTICS.
If this does not show any problems then go back to Direct X 8.1.Your graphics card will not support Direct X 9 anyway. The speed benefits are negligible unless your card and software utilise Direct X 9.

Thanks for response mark500, I have run the diagnostic tool, and found no problems, and I was getting the same problem with directx 8.
The games I play are old and my graphics card is more than sufficient to run them. I take your point about Directx 9 but was grasping for straws.

Try uninstalling your graphics card and reinstalling, and try newer drivers and software from click here.

Have you changed your graphics card? I got this error after upgrading from an ATI card to an NVIDIA. When you uninstall the ATI it leaves somthign behind and conflicts with the NVIDIA, you can try bunting down everything you can find to do with ATI, but it didn't work for me. I had to reformat to get rid of the message.

(PS DDHELP is somthing to do with direct draw, trty a game on OpenGL and you probably won't get the problem)

Thanks Ironman556, have not changed card, mine is up the tooth now. I have got all latest drivers though. I will try your suggestion (Open GL).

Many thanks G.
