data storage external drives

  [DELETED] 19:30 23 Jan 2006

I have a 160 Gb hard drive, but I need to attach a USB external drive with the ability to copy all of the data AND the operating system to it, using possibly the software supplied with the drive.
Has anyone any experience and/or suggestions please?

What operating system are you using? Do you have USB 2.0?

Yes, USB 2

You don't say what the software you have is. If it can make a bootable image of you hard drive(like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost)you will be able to back up both operating system plus programmes and files.

PC Bilbo.

No appropriate software - I was hoping someone could recommend an external USB drive with the software included.

Norton Ghost 9 is about £20. You will not find a hard drive with backup software - or I'll eat my hat.

I recently aqquired a Freecom FHD-3 250GB USB 2.0 not the cheapest external on offer at £140 but it comes with Acronis True Image Software and a 2 year warranty, they do a 160GB version for £109.

Once the software is setup it is a simple button press to backup.

Very pleased with it.

You might have to boil it first to soften it!
