Hi all.
I have a Dell Latitude C510 running XP Pro. The cursor has suddenly been taken over by unknown powers and is shooting around the screen like a wild thing and opening up things on its own. The only way I can stop it is by shutting the PC down. Any ideas?

Have you got up to date anti-virus software running?

Hi Taff.
Yes, that was the first thing I thought of. Its bang up to date. The problem seems to be a bit intermittent.

check the batteries in the mouse , if its cordless , dead batteries can cause this

Just a thought, there are one or two joke programs that give this effect.

there is a programme that will do this-checkout your 'friends'!
I think if you point the mouse to the top left corner it switches off!

froggg. when it actually does it, you can't use it at all, its just flying around the screen like its bottoms on fire.

Is it an optical or ball type??

  [DELETED] 19:50 10 Nov 2003

Neither, its a touchpad. SGT BARNES asked that. I've tried cleaning the touchpad as well and at the moment its working ok, but it does that for a while then goes mad again.
