Recently upgraded a friedns pc from windows ME to windwos 2000.

He has since bee getting the message that his pc has critical system errors.

Yes a fresh install would have been better - do you get blue screens? Random crashes?

Splork, he has only explained to me on the phone today. He says that his computer tells him that he has 55 critical errors and it list them. He cant play cds, use a floppy, or get into his office XP package.

55! You really need to know whether he can get into Windows, what form the errors take - dialogue boxes, crashes, error messages in specific apps? Could the `critical errors` thing be some scare-mongering by spyware? Is he able to get on the 'net, does he run antivirus and antispyware and firewall software? Lots of questions eh
