crashing pc

  Snrub 21:45 06 Sep 2009

My computer runs for about 30 minutes to perhaps a couple of hours when browsing then crashes. Use Ccleaner, checked for malware, viruses etc and all appears ok.
Is there any software for doing a 'system stability' check which would pinpoint if its a hardware problem, plse?

Overheating or PSU failing at a guess, how old is the machine?

Try cleaning fans grills and heatsinks

Not overheating, cleaned fans, grills, heatsinks and replaced PSU. Machine is 7 years old. One check has suggested upgrading BIOS since older than 2 years but a bit cautious about this.

BIOS upgrade is fraught with danger and is unlikey to help.

Check plenty of space on hard drive for swap file and run hard drive diagnostic from manfacturer

looking in Event Viewer it shows a warning triangle for hard disk with ID 51 repeatedly showing. A check of the hard disk diagnostics registers 80% healthy on spin up. There are Hotfix methods for Event ID 51 on the Microsoft Help Line but relate to other versions of O/S and not XP which I am running.
