CPU and memory not performing.

  dagwoood 14:45 25 Feb 2005

I've had installed a new motherboard, Gigabyte 7N 400 L v2.0, and when I bench the CPU/memory, I'm getting results exactly 34% less than I should.

My system specs are XP SP2, Athlon XP 3200+, 1x512MB PC3200.

As the performance deficit is 34%, it leads me to believe that my RAM is only running as if it's PC2100, or something's throttling it.

I've manually set the frequencies for my memory(as opposed to letting my BIOS auto detect), and checked that the bus settings are correct for the CPU and memory and they're showing as 200/400 respectively. I've also disabled temperature throttling in case it's heat related.

Any help/advice/input appreciated.

Cheers, dagwoood.

Are you sure the benchmarking program is actually reading your system correctly?

Totally-braindead, I originally noticed the deficit when I visited PCPitstop but I then benched my system using SiSoftware Sandra and the results were poor for my CPU/RAM(really poor!).

do a google for cpu-z and download it. it checks your system and tells you what your ram is and its speed

harps1h, I've ran CPU-Z(already had a copy)and it shows that my CPU is running at the correct speed( click here )and the bus settings are correct. Ditto for my RAM( click here ).

Not sure whether this has anything to do with this but I've been having a look at my CPU core voltage and it's fluctuating between 1.67 and 1.70, and my CPU should run at 1.65.

Hi dagwoood,
I am no expert, but I don't think that this is the cause as my CPU voltage fluctuates aswell.
Mine fluctuates between around 1.62v and 1.72v and I have a very stable PC (touchwood). ;0)

CurlyWhirly, thanks for that :)

I managed to cure this problem by reinstalling the o/s but making sure my BIOS was set correctly.

Cheers, dagwoood.
