CPU Fan Speed?

  zams 14:07 04 Dec 2003

I've got a noisy (vacum cleaner) 7,000 RPM cpu cooling fan for Athlon Xp1700+.

I was wondering, what type of cooling fan should I buy for this processor? I need a quiet one. If I was to buy 3,000 RPM cooling fan, would it work? or would the processor burn? Is it compatible?

Thnx for any replies

I use one myself on a XP2000 and it does the trick. Very quiet too.

Basically, just look for anything with an 80mm fan that spins at around 2500, and you have a cooler that will easily deal with your 1700XP.

True, airflow throughout the case will cause a difference in temperature on the CPU. Having an exhaust fan can drop your temp several degrees.

Look at the Panaflo fan L1A 80mm, and use this to suck air out the back of your case. It's a EXTREMELY quiet fan (i can't hear it working) and it drops my temps by about 5c. Hope this is of help to you.

You could use one like this, it has a PCI slot fan speed controller, you could then change the speed of the fan to suit
