CPU fan keeps running at high speed

  clarkneil 12:00 06 Dec 2007

I have a problem with my cpu fan, it keeps running fast, some days it will be like it all the time the pc is running and sometimes it will run normally but only for a few minutes then it will back up to speed again. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Dust can make the fans really inefficient and therefore they have to run a lot faster and noisier in order to keep everything nice and cool. Have you tried cleaning the fans and checking all the air intake and outlet areas are clear?
I removed what can only be described as a “rug” from the air intake my PC just last week and now its as quiet as ever.

yes, even got the dust out from between the heatsink fins but still runs fast

Have you tried TaskManager.Under processes.CPU. system idle process should be showing about 97% if anything else showing a high % of the CPU let us know what.

run it for a while to get it warm, then restart it and go into bios / setup; somewhere in there it should show cpu temperature.
