CPU Failed, directly replace or new CPU?

Hi, My AMD x2 6400 CPU has failed due to bent pins...............too long to explain!
I can source the same CPU from Overclockers but was considering the AMD 7750 Dual Core and / or AMD Phenom 9850 which are both supported by motherboard M2N Sli. However Asus recommend a BIOS update for the above processors.

Will the PC boot with either the 7750 or 9850 and allow me to do a BIOS update or should I but another 6400?

I have asked Asus, however their support desk tend just to post generic replies.

If pins are bent, I'd buy a new Motherboard too.

Usually the CPU will be recognised as a lower speed version until the BIOS update is applied. However you need to check which CPUs are covered by the BIOS release.

Some will not work unless the BIOS is first updated
