Corrupt File on Windows XP

Can anyone help with this problem I have on XP. When I shut Windows down before the PC shuts off I get an Error box which says:
The file or directory C:\$MFT is corrupt and unreadable,
Please run the chkdsk utility.

I have done the chkdsk but it still continues to come on screen when shuting off. Sometimes the box do not appear and the next time I use the PC it runs chkdsk on its own, an it is not programmed to run as part of mainantence

Any idea's would be gratfully appreciated

goto run and type sfc /scannow

you may need the disk handy

this will check all your files

This can be quite serious MFT is the master file table of your hard drive.

Searching Google with 'MFT Corrupt' brings up quite a few hits including this one click here

Hi Guy's found out it was some faulty memory. PC running fine now.

Faulty bank of 128 memory.

Nice to know it was not too serious..
