Is this the correct way to install wifi adapter

Device Manager: uninstall old adapter driver
Remove old adapter
Install new hardware
Windows recognises new hardware
Point windows to where downloaded driver is
Install new driver

Is this the correct way?

Running vista home premium
New wifi adapter is:
GIGABYTE GN-WS50G-RH 802.11 b/g Atheros AR5007 chipset minicard mPCI express card

That looks about right

You don't say what the connectivity problem is?

Perhaps you need to change settings in Control Panel>Power options!

Plus - is it a laptop?

Thanks Strawballs and Technotiger
The problem is that the laptop connects and works ok for a while then goes to "limited connectivity"
I have 4 pc's on the network 1 wired desktop and 3 wireless laptops.2 laptops work fine,no probs whatsoever but since we changed to sky the one laptop started having probs with connection, all wireless laptops worked with the old provider
Have tried everything now this is the last thing to do

I have checked everything, even trying laptop at different distances from router, still no good.
The laptop is always on mains power.
If it helps the laptop is an advent 9515
