copying a DVD - how hard can it be?

  kenwyn 05:57 22 Feb 2008

I recently spent ages lovingly editing and tranferring a 18 yr old VHS family video onto DVD, using Adobe Premier. So then I had the master DVD. Next step, make copies for all the family. So... Tried nero, which seems to copy a version of the disc onto the PC hard drive as Video_TS folder containing 9 different files. When I then try to get Nero to make a DVD from these, it splits the 145 minute video into 4 random and seperate "episodes" (files) As the final DVD contains a continuous narration, this makes it impossible to watch as intended.

So then I tried DVD Shrink, which worked for the first copy. On the second copy, it told me to delete a version of Copy1 which it had saved, and then the burn failed, wasting a disc!

Is there an easier way to do this? has Abobe Premier somehow created the master DVD in a weird format? Of course, once I had the master DVD in my eager hands, I deleted the 40GB Adobe file, to free up space, so its no good going back to the original hard drive edit. As always, I look forward to your suggestions

I have no problem doing a straight copy of a DVD using Nero.

Are you using the normal copy function...?

I open Nero Start Smart
Click on DVD
Click on Backup
Click on "Copy DVD"

Place master disc in DVD reader
Placed balnk DVD in DVD Burner

Follow Nero instructions from there.

Use Imgburn its free and just use create image from disc then write to disc and tell it how many copies .
If Imgburn does not work that way because of your Weird file (iuse premiere and the file is just anormal video _ts file )
The in imgburn choose create image file from files or folders
Come back if any queries on imgburn

I have copied many vhs to dvd using wincreator, and then copied using nero, you could try using the same burner for reading and writing. If you have a dvdwr, use this for the trial copy this will stop you wasting dvdr's

Sparky why would one need to spend considerable money on any dvd to copy a non protected dvd or clone dvd when there are adequate freebies

Sorry for the double post having probs with this site today

Kenwyn when you first burnde with Premiere you should have saved to Iso .then that stays on the hard drive and youjust use that each time you wnt to make a copy Shrink will do it but if under backup you chose to save to folder and burn to disc that is where it will want you to delete the original as it makes a fresh folder . Incidentally it will burn by default to nero with out you doing anything if you tick enable nero in the preferences box under I/O

eedcam i suggested the trial option not to pay for it.

Appreciate that Sparky but just could'nt see what any dvd apart from getting round Encrypted dvds which is not applicable in this case would do. Or clone dvd would do that he has not got already Shrink can do all he needs and in some a ways can do more than Clone.Anydvd and clone are great for what they were created for least any dvd is.
