Converting Works Spreadsheet to Excel

There are several previous postings on this topic, these recommend saving as .csv file in works. It goes on to say that Excel can open these and copy data but not preserve formatting.
This would be OK and there aren't many formulaes to adjust.
The problem is in Excel what option in Save file do I use to open .. there is no csv from the dropdown file option in Excel 2000 but there is dBase - Works 2 files and some other strange formats.

You don't use any option in Save file to open the csv file. You use the Open file menu. You will probably find csv in the text files option in the drop-down box.

in Excel 2000, .csv IS available... You just have to scroll down a little. It's not immediately obvious.
