I have a large collection of cds and would like to convert them to mp3 so as to play them on personal cd player

Windows media player 9, apple's iTunes, Winamp, or dBpowerAmp will all do it - one is as good as another.

And so too will AudioGrabber.

can I get any of these for free or are they available to buy

All are free - some have pay for extras, but all do what you want for free.

If you decide on AudioGrabber you will have to download a plugin to allow you to rip to bitrates over 56kbps.

Not a problem though - all in all a neat and easy utility to use.

"...convert them to mp3 so as to play them on personal cd player"

Presumably your personal CD player supports mp3?
