Contacts list

I have been using Open Office for a few months now and am thinking of uninstalling MS Office, will I be able to open ALL documents that come to me from MS Office?
Secondly I do use and like MS Outlook for the contacts list, is there another program that will do similar, for free??
I have switched to Mozilla but Thunderbird is not what I am looking for as that is more like MS Outlook Express and not Outlook.

If you download the Lightning add on for Thunderbird that will give you a calender.

I find Thunderbird more use than Outlook express. In Thunderbird you can create groups of contacts and Template e-mails which I found very useful for sending the same e-mail, with an updated attachment, on a weekly basis.

Why uninstall Outlook if you've already got it and you like it.

You can uninstall the rest of MS Office and just leave Outlook if you want.

In addition, if you are concerned about the ability of other 'office' programs to read files, why uninstall MS Office?

That is a good point Pine Man, I just thought of freeing up some space
