Connection security settings

I am unable to access certain web sites from my home pc e.g. secure servers for on-line buying. I used not to have a problem so I suspect some setting has been inadvertantly changed. Trouble is I'm not sure when the problem first developed. The error message says 'some sites require 128-bit connection security' while the 'About Internet Explorer' screen says I have 'cipher strength 0-bit' so I suspect that's where the problem lies. Am I right? If so how can I change the cipher strength?
The error message also says to check settings for SSL2.0, SSl 3.0, TLS 1.0 and PCT 1.0 in Internet Options but I do not have PCT 1.0 listed (the others are ticked).
I use IE version six (from magazine disk provided by PC Advisor.

Fixed this in the past by installing IE6 over the top. click here
