connecting to printer

Laptop (win2k) PC (winxp) on small workgroup network using static ip addresses. I need the laptop to print to the shared printer attached via usb on the pc. I go through my network places and find the pc. I then have to log in to see the shared contents. I setup a user on the xp pc called laptop, and I put this into the laptop with the password. It lets me connect to the printer and print. Then when I reboot, the printer (set to default) says access denied. Doesnt win2k remember the login settings? It's a real pain to go through and login for printer access after every reboot. In the xp pc, I have set the security for the printer to accept the user laptop.

Many thanks in advance

Doesn't Win2000 allow you to use the usual XP-style method of adding the printer to the laptop's Printers & Faxes folder from the Add Printer command?

I'm not very familiar with Win2k, but it would surprise me if you this isn't possible.
