i had same prob and it was all the programs
running in the back ground find a site for a
program called hijack this and do a scan you will
be amazed at the amount of progams running

  Gongoozler 10:17 04 Mar 2006

HiJackThis click here. Run the program, then copy and paste the resulting logfile here (you may need more than one posting because of the 4500 character limit). Don't do anything else with the HiJackThis results or you might delete important processes from your computer.

The problem with file sharing programs is that there is nothing free, and they are paid for by masses of spyware etc that even AdAware and Spybot can't always be relied on to protect you from.

Hi rossol. I've had a look at your HJT logfile, and with my very limited knowledge of interpreting HJT logs, I've not spotted anything that I recognise as being a problem, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything there. A member of this forum, nellie2 is expert on this, but isn't always available to help. If you post your log on this specialist malware forum click here, you may have more success. Meanwhile Ewido is reputed to be very good at detecting trojans click here

Is it a good idea to have 2x cleaners such as CCleaner and CleanUp! or do they do exactly the same thing? I have used both on same pc before and they seemed to find different things from each other, I only have CCleaner on this one.

  Gongoozler 11:58 05 Mar 2006

Miss Happy, I don't think there's any harm using two cleaners such as these. I only have experience of Ccleaner, and it simply finds what it considers to be redundant data on your computer. I suspect that CleanUp! does a similar thing. Ccleaner is very aggressive and if left to itself removes some data that isn't strictly redundant, but it does give a very clean starting point. I suspect this is why Ccleaner and Cleanup! find different things - it's a matter of what each considers to be redundant data.

Running two antivirus programs or firewalls is a different matter, they will almost certainly cause problems and probably crash your computer.

  Miss Happy 12:07 05 Mar 2006

Gongoozler, thanks for your answer. I will pass links on to my daughter - she needs to get back as much memory as she can on old pc. I only ever run one antivirus and firewall on system. Trying paid AVG antivirus & firewall at moment, hope it's working ok, used to use zonealarm but it was a bit intrusive while online.
