Computer turning itself off

Can someone please help. My computer as turned itself off twice today, resulting in me losing my work. I have done a virus check and found no viruses,I would be very grateful for any help.
I have Windows Xp pro. Thank you, Taram

Check the temperature of the cpu in the bios, if overheating can cause shutdown to protect the cpu.

Sorry about this, but how do I check the temperature in bios, And if it is overheating is there anything I can do about it. Thank you, Taram

As the pc boots you may see something like

press del to enter setup

or it may be F2 or F8 depending on the PC.

In there are some screens which the arrow keys move you through. Ond should mention temperatures or system health or the like.
