Computer hit by malicious folder duplication

Hi there

A few days ago from unknown source a load of folders appeared in the c drive, most with single letters and folders. And within each folder there is a series of other folders which go on to duplicate themselves sometimes up to 200 folders, all empty.

At first I thought not much of it... when I deleted manually another folder appeared with name '!submit' suggesting to me its malicious.

Furthermore I can't delete the remaining folders including this !submit as there is a missing file down the many sub-directories with the name 'Saturday 27th October 2007' and the folder will not delete.

Moveonboot will only work on a selected file and Killbox didn't work either during normal use or in the boot phase.

If any one has encountered this and has suggestions please let me know.

PS For infor I run XP service pack 2.

Try A-Squared to check for a trojan on your system.

Are you running an up to date virus checker?

Are you running a firewall?
