Computer gone mad

Hello all.
I have recently recieved my old PC for the purposes of doing essays/ internet and games.
I gave it to a friend to fix as last term it threw in the towel, resulting with me getting a new PC for my computer music work.

The problem I am having now is that the old PC will not allow me to install anything I have tried so far, which is listed below: -

Call of Duty 1
Call of Duty 2
The Sims (for the gf - i swear!)
Microsoft Office 2007

In the instance of the two games I am given the message "( ) could not be located. This may be bacause the medium from which you are trying to install is corrupt" - which i know isnt.

And Microsoft office wont install, saying it cannot locate a file, which when I locate and select it, im presented with "Invalid file".

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Windows XP (Home Edition)
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

AMD Athlon 64

Also, when I remove the language bar from the taskbar, each time i restart my computer it is there.

Any help would be much appreciated

Clean the CD/DVD drive with a lens cleaner and retry.

Both error messages are due to the install not being able to red the CDs.

Have you checked and 'cleaned' the disc's.

Alternatively, you might need to consider a replacement cd/dvd device. Easy to change, and cheap enough nowadays.
