Computer crashing at random after upgrade

  Octo 15:36 22 Oct 2003

My friend has recently upgraded his computer with the following parts:

P4 3g-C
2x512 corsair ddr400
gf ti4200
creative 6.1

After installation of all the parts and drivers the computer runs smoothly, but it'd crash randomly without known reason. We have tried different rams at ddr333 and the problem stays. He runs his computer with Win 2K pro. Have also tried my compy of Win XP and same thing happens.

Wonder if anyone can help on this thanks in advance!

Any indication on the random crash, ie: Error Message : BSoD or Freeze.

is the power supply up to the job, i would think about 300 or even 350 watt psu would be needed.

other thought is overheating.

one last thing, try taking out 1 memory stick and try again, if same happens, swap memory sticks and try again just to rule out memory.

also make sure the graphic card is seated properly.

good luck

If you suspect your memory try running Docmem free from click here

or test your system with Burnintest trial download available from :click here

I too would suspect the memory being the culprit in this. Remove both sticks of new memory and try again with the original memory, but only one stick at a time. j.

we tried with original rams and bought new ddr 333 rams and both didn't help. I suspected it's ram as well at first cos it happened to my comp. anyway this is one of the errors he was getting.

0x000000d1 (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xB5F024C4) DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
ADDRESS B5F024C4 base at B5EEF000, Datastamp 3f57eae1 - vsdatant.sys

That is only one of the few errors he's getting. I'm telling his to jolt the rest down once his comp crash again.

It looks very much like a memory problem.

try removing the memory, clean the slots (gentley brush and blow should do) refit ONE memory stick and run DOCMEM. This should ensure the memeory is OK.

Add the rest of the memory one stick at a time testing after each add. That should ensure that your memory is all ok.

it may be worth running Burnintest or simular for about at least an hour to see if the system is stable.
