Computer Crashing

  heavymetalkid 00:10 15 Feb 2006

In the last 30 minutes my computer shut itself down. I turned it back on and had an on-screen saying "Windows had recovered from a serious error" Then it went off again and when I got it back, shut down three more times. I tried system restore and at first it wouldn't connect. Still kept getting "recovered from serious error warnings". It's back now but I don't know for how long. Anyone know what's happening?

1. Have you got a good anti-virus program installed, and is it up to date?

2. Are you running a firewall?

3. Have you recently installed any new software?

4. Any new hardware?

5. Have you altered any settings in the BIOS?

6. Have you opened the case to see if all the fans are running?

Answer those questions if you would, and we'll go from there.

Would help if you could supply some tech details:

What operating system?
What pc specs?
How old is the pc?

First thing I would do is to check that you have all important files backed up and then think about doing a system re-install.

I take it that the antivirus progs have found nothing?

I would check CPU fan is running ok and is not clogged with dust.Sounds like overheating.
