Computer crashes when accessing a Win Media Video

  benson68 12:16 22 Jun 2010

When I click on a WMV file in any email, the Windows Media Player screen comes up, then all goes black, followed by a blue screen (for a fraction of a second) that I can't read, then the computer restarts.

I've tried the usual spyware / malware detectors, registry cleaners, SFC /scannow, but nothing stops this crashing.
Win XP home, 2GB memory, AMD Sempron 3000 processor.

Any ideas, please?

try uninstalling wm player and reboot then download and install a clean copy. It might be a conflict with flash. MS silverlight sometimes has this effect.

It was an NVIDEA driver update that had caused it. Rolled back the driver, -Jobs a carrot!!

hi benson68 well done for fixing it and saying what was done. Now click the resolved button so everybody can see it is fixed.

I did click the resolved, when I posted the "fixed it" message!
Maybe that wants fixing also?
