Most likely it needs a new CMOS battery

Losing time when the computer is off may well be the battery.

When the computer is running the time is kept by the operating system. That's why current OSs do frequent time checks across the internet, to standard time servers.

Double click the clock, click the Internet Time tab - and check that it's set to synchronise, and when the last synchronisation was.

Sounds like your PC is at least three years old. As above the CMOS Battery on the Motherboard needs replacing about same size as a 10 pence piece, just a bit thicker.

Make sure you put it in the right way round when replacing it.
