Compatible security software

Is there a definitive rule about installing security programmes that won't squabble with each other, please. I've had a lot of trouble with AVG professional and I have now bought McAfee internet security suite. I realise I have to get rid of AVG, but what about Ewida (anti spyware) and XP Firewall. I'm sure I have read somewhere that you should have two of something (anti spyware or firewall), but which? Thanks

you shouldn't have two firewalls or two anti-virus programs (with real-time protection) running at the same time.

You will need to uninstall AVG before installing McAfee. McAfee should disable the Windows Firewall during installation.

You can run ewido with McAfee installed.

That's the first time I've had a really clear answer. Thankyou Beynac
