  granville1 15:30 09 May 2005

I have a pc chips266 motherboard with a socket-462 OR Socket A as i've heard it called. I brought Rome Total War a little while ago, but couldn't play it. I have Since realised that i need to up date my processor.
Do you know if the Sempron 2400 1.6Ghz Socket A 256KB 333Mhz is compatible with my pc.
It says it's a socket A, but does that mean it's ok.
Please forgive my ignorance but it's ages since i built my pc and i've kind of lost touch a bit.
Please help is you can, as my gaming is just not happening at the moment.

Can you tell us the exact model of motherboard please - the manual should tell you.

266 may mean FSB 266MHz, but the CPU you mentioned use FSB 333MHz

exact motherboard model number would help people identify it for you

it is not easy to find any fast Socket A cpu run at 266 FSB, so it may be better to upgrade motherboard as well,

maybe you try ebay for a second hand cpu

As TomJerry, it would probably better to upgrade the mobo as well.

You will find a wide variety here at good prices.

Thanks . I drew the same conclusion yesterday. It's time to upgrade.
