compaq 6735s LAN problem

  old china 03:56 02 Jan 2010

My compaq 6735s notebook is physically connected to my Netgear N-router via ethernet but the notebook thinks it's not (it says network cable is unplugged).

The port light on the router flickers intermittently with the amber light on the computer's LAN port, similar to the other light on the router which is hard-wired to another PC.

Ethernet cable is fine (tested it with another laptop).

I've tried disable/enable, uninstall/restart the laptop, updating LAN driver, but no joy.

Wireless connection on the laptop is fine, just can't get LAN connection.

I've had the laptop for just over a year (2 weeks beyond warranty) and it had worked fine till a few weeks ago when it wouldn't LAN connect. I found on the hp forum that the problem could be due to wired and wireless connections sometimes interfere. I manually turned off the wireless connection (switch next to the on/off button) and it worked last time but not this time.

I also went to BIOS and reset configuration to default setting.

I am running out of ideas. Please can someone help? Much appreciated.

It could be a problem with onboard lan card, you could try PCMCIA lan card?
