Compact Flash card reader not working?

  Templar1961 18:25 23 Apr 2004

I just tried to use my new San Disk ImageMate - but the drivers don't seem to install? looked on San Disk website and their advice was to edit registry - but no success!

Any suggestions?

With Windows XP I shouldn't need to install drivers? Yet on connecting the device new device wizard suggests that I insert CD to install drivers?

I assume that you have switched off your computer first then insert into USB. switch on then go to my computer and look for the drive.
Usually I have found that if you dont see it there then the reader could be faulty.

Sounds like the is something wrong with the reader. According to 2 reviews Win-XP should not require a driver; the reader should be recognised by XP.

No green or red LED is showing?

No newly assigned removable disk icon appears?

Should I return the reader?

Have you tried something else plugged into the USB socket, to make sure that the USB side of things is ok?

My Broadband modem works fine in the USB port.

XP will normally see these devices without any drivers being installed. I reckon the reader is faulty.

Cheers - I will try the reader on someone else's pc and then if it doesn't work I will know the reader is faulty.
