coded email attachments

I've been trying to send a media file attachment to someone through outlook express. Each time I send it, the recipient tells me it's coded and can't be viewed.

Is it something from my end or the recipient?

The original email attachment was sent to me and as soon as I clicked on attachment it opened it without any problems.

I think you need a prog like "Word" to read the files, if they do have it, it may be an earlier version which is not capable, update to newer version, try again...

What type of media attachment is it?.

It's a wmv file - I'm not sure if I can convert it with any of my programs in order to resend

Anyone with Windows should have Windows media Player installed, and it should play wmv files.

1: Ask you recipient to check that it is configured to play wmv files. To do this, open Windows Media Player, click on tools, then options, then file types. Ensure that a tick is against WMV files. If not, tick it, then click apply, then OK.

2: Get them to check that they have the latest codecs. They can be obtained from MS here:

By the way, what is the size of the file you are trying to send?.

Just in case your recipient does not have Windows Media Player, or wishes to re-install, it can be downloaded from here.
