Clean out

  compy 08:28 12 Oct 2003

XP pro
I have just discoverd a lot of files in my TEMP directory totaling 162MB

C:\Documents and Settings\Steve\Local Settings\Temp

This includes a. 13 folders of which ISTMPO.DIR is an example
b. 10 folders that look like registry keys, {2e861ec9-fcb8-11d3 ETC for example
c. 13 folders such as WZSE1.TMP
d. 150 sub folders which contain mainly .tmp but also .dat .txt and.exe files

If i clean out this TEMP folder will i cause a problem, or is it best to leave it alone.

Thanks in advance.

Hi compy. I think you will find that WZSE1.TEMP is a Winzip self extractor file. This directory was probably left over from an installation that didn't clear up after itself. With temp files that I'm not confident about deleting, I usually either delete them but don't empty the recycle bin, or move them to another location for a few days to see if that causes any problems before deleting them permanently.
