Chip Speed.

Can anyone give me some quick info or send me to a website that tells me....

I am confused as to the modern chips abilities. Dual core, Quad core......etc.

I have a PC that has a 3 Ghz pentium chip with gig of RAM a couple of 80 Gig Hard drives (Pata) that I built about 5 years ago.

Now I see that most chips these days are running at less than 3 ghz but have more than one core.

I understood at one point that more than one core was only useful for multitasking...?

The reason I ask is that I do a small amount of video editing on my current machine. I would like to do a bit more and have a little more power but I don't need to be cutting edge.

How do I compare specs these days!!!

Thanks, Epirb.

google for Tom's Hardware; they have charts which compare processors doing different benchmarks. I think one of them involves some kind of video task.
