Cheap best laptop any recommendations

  haven't a clue 16:41 30 Nov 2004

following on from my wireless question, I will obviously need a laptop. I don't actually want a fancy expensive one, just connectivity to the internet and word processing probably. Any best buy recommendations, and what sort of price can I get one these days?

What sort of price? From about £500...

If you are looking for wireless, about £650.

Whoops I was hoping for a bit cheaper than that. Is it possible to cheaply make an older laptop wireless?

Yes. A netgear WG511 wireless PCMCIA card is about £22 from ebuyer. Can get cheaper, but netgear kit is great.

you just need a PCMCIA wireless card such as one suggested by Jeffers22

you can find a new 1ghz laptop in Ebuyer about £380, not too bad

Novatech do have cheaper and adding a wireless card will do the job; if you have a spare OS, it is even better.

so I can just add one of these wireless cards to my cheapo laptop and away I go?

haven't a clue - all depends on your current laptop - operating system, specifications etc. Post them and someone may be able to help.
