I've just discovered that by holding ALT and typing 0189 gives you the ½ character. Where does it tell you how to type other similar characters?
If vista type character map in start search box. Found under accessories in xp.
If you're using Word, you should find that if you type 1/2 followed by a space, Word will automatically insert the correct character. Ditto with 1/4 and 3/4.
¼ = ALT 0188¾ = ALT 0190

Also available at Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map which also give you loads more!
Sea Urchin - thanks for that. I've bookmarked your links.
