Changing drive letters in Win2000?

  BigDunc 12:31 08 Jul 2003

Installed new 30GB HD in laptop / Win2000. Bought Partition Magic v8 to create a "D drive" to hold my data files.

Partition created OK but the d drive is the CD-ROM and the new partition is "E".

When I try and change the the "e" to "d", the only option which is unavailable is "D"!!!! How do I move the CD-ROM from d to make to available for my partition???

change the new partition to F

Change the CD to E

then change the new partition to D

Many thanks. Now sorted. Not exactly intuitive!!!

Maybe not intuitive but when you realise that two drives cannot have the same drive letter at the same time it becomes clear that it is necessary temporarily give one a temporary letter in order that the first may have one which is in use.

Actually, that explaination was not too intuitive either I suppose... it is a logical process though.
