CD/DVD write fails to write

  djsew 19:24 06 Feb 2006

Attempts to write a set of files to a CD-RW disc returns dialog "disc not formatted". This occurs on my mate's PC - Mesh 3200, 1gb RAM, Sony CDRW CRX320E, Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD v8.
Same disc, same operation in my PC reports back "incompatible media for Windows" (Pioneer DVD107D writer, Sonic writing s/w.

This brand new CD-RW is by Philips - 700Mb,80 min, 4-12x speed.

Would the problem be due to media speed rating?
Or can anyone suggest a fix?

have you tried a different make of disc?

Oh, yes. I have some budget 1-52x discs, they're just fine. My mate has others that work OK, repeated written and rewritten, I don't know their speed rating tho'.

Could someone comment on this, I thought CDRW disks needed to be formatted before being used. Can someone confirm this or am I barking up the wrong tree?
